Miami immigration courts facing major backlog

Amid the U.S. migrant crisis and the surge of people crossing its borders daily, a secondary crisis exists in the courts which are backlogged with record cases of migrants waiting to plead their cases for asylum.

And nowhere is this backlog greater than in the city of Miami.

Fueled by an unprecedented number of crossings at the southern border, U.S. immigration courts are facing their worst backlog in recent history, with three million pending cases, according to data compiled by researchers at Syracuse University.
