Voters in the U.S. state of South Carolina cast the first official ballots in the Democratic nominating contest of the 2024 presidential election. Incumbent President Joe Biden was expected to coast to victory in the state that resurrected his foundering campaign in 2020. Turnout was being closely watched to see how Biden's support might translate in upcoming primaries.
