The Chinese Embassy in the U.S. scored second place for the Judges’ Choice Award at the 2024 Embassy Chef Challenge held in Washington, D.C.
On this year's menu, Chinese Embassy chefs highlighted the unique spicy flavors of China's Sichuan cuisine, presenting Sichuan Spicy Fish, Kung Pao Shrimp Balls, Sichuan Cold Spicy Noodles and Snowy Mooncakes to judges and guests.
Chinese tea and Baijiu were also served.
They also showcased exquisite pastry-making and food-carving skills, turning traditional Chinese pastries into many different fun shapes, including dragons, persimmons, peaches, peanuts, walnuts, and more.
Crowds of people stopped by the booth to taste Chinese food and drinks.
The Embassy staff explained to the guests about Chinese culture, food ingredients and cooking methods.
Over 20 embassies showcased their best food and drinks during the event. Many countries presented live performances on the stage to honor their cultural heritage.
The performance by a local Peking Opera troupe wowed the audience. The young artist also invited audience members onstage to learn the techniques of Peking Opera performance.
