Jeff Chamberlain, CEO of Volta Energy Technologies, spoke to CGTN about his observations from a recent visit to China. He emphasized China’s leadership in battery technology and renewable energy due to their combination of scale, quality, and innovation adding that, "The Chinese are very clearly in the leadership in this technology... specifically for electric vehicles and batteries."
Chamberlain also discussed the shift in the renewable energy and electric vehicle markets, driven more by economics than politics. “It used to be the choice for electric vehicles was driven by the question of global warming, but it is becoming increasingly a question of home economics."
"If the (battery) supply chain has high quality, low-cost products, that means companies like Volkswagen or Ford can compete if they cooperate with that supply chain."That's what Chamberlain said as he emphasized the mutual benefits of global collaboration with battery production.
“I think that is the way to move forward, to collaborate in a way where both parties win," said Jeff Chamberlain. He praised the partnership between Ford and CATL, considering it a smart strategy where both parties can profit.
