Olympics Day 4: Table tennis gold for China, gold for US women gymnastics

The fourth day of the Paris Olympics saw China's Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha winning gold in table tennis mixed doubles, beating out the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's Ri Jong Sik and Kim Kum Yong 4-2. South Korea's Lim Jonghoon and Shin Yubin took bronze.

Team USA also won gold in the women’s artistic gymnastics team final, with Simone Biles winning her fifth Olympic gold. Italy won silver and Brazil won bronze. Team China came in sixth place.

In swimming, Great Britain won gold in the men's 4 X 200-meter freestyle relay final. The United States won silver, and Australia won bronze.

China's Pan Zhanle advanced to the finals in the men's 100-meter freestyle swimming event with a time of 47.21.  Pan is currently the world record holder in this event. Teammate Dong Zhihao also advanced to the final of the men's 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:08.99.

Ireland’s Daniel Wiffen won gold in the men’s 800-meter freestyle swimming event, with a time of 7:38.19. He beat USA’s Bobby Finke and Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri, who took silver and bronze respectively.

Australian Kaylee McKeown won the women’s 100-meter backstroke, earning an Olympic Record of 57.33. She beat Americans Regan Smith and Katharine Berkoff, who won silver and gold respectively.

In basketball, Team China also advanced to play-in games of women's 3x3 basketball after beating France in the pool round.

In fencing, Italy took home the gold in the women's epee team competition, beating out France, who came in second. Poland won the bronze medal in a tight match against Team China.

Meanwhile, the men’s triathlon was postponed due to water quality concerns about the Seine River. Surfing was also postponed to later in the week.
