Chinese athletes won multiple medals on day 10 of the Paris Olympics, pushing the team past the U.S. once again in the gold medal race.
On Monday, August 5, Team China won two gold medals to bring their total to 21. These medals were crucial in helping Team China break the tie with the U.S., who now trails by one in the race for most golds.
China’s top medals came in men’s 25m rapid fire pistol shooting and men’s gymnastics parallel bars.
Li Yuenhong got Team China off on the right foot Monday when he won gold in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol shooting competition.
Fellow Chinese competitor Wang Xinjie finished third in the shooting challenge, adding another medal to the team’s total.
In men’s gymnastics, China’s You Jingyuan posted an incredible score of 16.2 in the parallel bars competition, putting him well ahead of silver medalist Illia Kovtun of Ukraine.
The Chinese men’s gymnastics team also secured another medal on day 10 when Zhang Boheng won bronze in the horizontal bar competition.
Jiang Yiting and Liu Jianlin of China’s mixed skeet shooting team also won bronze on Day 10, pushing out India from the podium.
In women’s gymnastics, China’s Zhou Yaqin won silver in the balance beam competition, beating out the likes of U.S. great Simone Biles and Brazilian star Rebeca Andrade.
Perhaps one of the biggest stories on day 10 was Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade winning gold in the floor exercise final in women’s gymnastics.
Andrade was greeted on the victory stand by fellow competitors Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles, who won silver and bronze, respectively, as they congratulated the Brazilian gymnast on her astounding performance.
