Team China sets Olympic records and wins historic gold on day 12

It’s been another exciting day at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with Team China setting new Olympic records and securing medals, including a historic first on day 12 of the Games, Wednesday, August 7.

For the first time in the country’s history, China’s acrobatic swim team clinched gold in artistic swimming, finishing with 996 points, a lead of nearly 82 points over the U.S. who took home silver.

Weightlifter Li Fabin took home another gold and set a new record in the 61kg weight class. 

He set an Olympic snatch record by lifting 143 kilograms (315 pounds) on his final attempt, ending the competition with a massive score of 310.

China’s Hou Zhihui also set a new Olympic weightlifting record for the clean-and-jerk in the women’s 49kg weight class, lifting an impressive 206 kilograms (454 pounds).

In Taekwondo, China's Guo Qing won silver against the reigning Olympic champion in the women's flyweight division, Panipak Wongpattanakit from Thailand.

Team China’s Deng Lijuan brought home a silver medal in a new sport debuting at Paris 2024, the sports climbing women's speed final.

Deng's time was only 0.08 seconds behind the winner, Aleksandra Miroslaw of Poland.

Feng Ziqi earned bronze in the women’s freestyle wrestling match, beating Mongolia’s Otgonjargal Dolgorjav 6-4.

China also cemented its position in the women's field hockey final against the Netherlands, by defeating Belgium in a semifinal shoot-out.

In table tennis, Team China advanced to the semifinals in both the men’s and women’s team quarterfinal matches.
