It’s been one year since the historic Hawaiian town of Lahaina burned to the ground killing more than a hundred people on the U.S. Island of Maui.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The state's governor last week announced a $4 billion settlement resolving hundreds of lawsuits filed by individuals and businesses.

It comes at a time when many families are still struggling with basic needs like housing and food.

CGTN’s Ediz Tiyansan has accompanied a fire victim who visited the site of his destroyed family home for the first time since the week of the disaster.
