China’s Chang Yuan secured a gold medal in the women’s 54 kg boxing final against Turkiye’s Hatice Akbas on Thursday, August 8. The victory marks China’s first boxing medal at these Games and also the country's first women's boxing medal since the sport was introduced as an official Olympic event in London 2012.

Chinese athlete Luo Shifang also claimed the gold medal in the women's 59 kg weightlifting category. Making her Olympic debut in Paris, Luo set three new Olympic records by lifting 107 kg in the snatch and 134 kg in the clean and jerk, achieving a winning total of 241 kg.

In the men's canoe double 500 meter event, China's Liu Hao and Ji Bowen won gold with a time of 1:39.48, finishing ahead of Italy’s Gabriele Casadei and Carlo Tacchini, who took silver, and Spain’s Joan Antoni Moreno and Diego Dominguez, who earned bronze. Earlier, on Tuesday, August 6, the pair had set an Olympic best time of 1:37.40 in the heats.

Chinese diver Xie Siyi edged teammate Wang Zongyuan to retain his gold medal in the men's 3-meter springboard event, while Mexico's Osmar Olvera Ibarra took the bronze.

So far, China's diving team has claimed all six gold medals at Paris 2024, with two events still remaining.

China’s Chen Yiwen and Chang Yani also advanced to the women’s 3-meter springboard final on Friday.

In sports climbing, China's Wu Peng won silver in the men's speed big final, clocking a time of 4.77 seconds. Veddriq Leonardo of Indonesia won the gold medal with a personal best of 4.75 seconds, just 0.02 seconds faster than Wu. Sam Watson of the United States took bronze with a world record time of 4.74 seconds.

In the men's 68 kg Taekwondo match, China's Liang Yushuai secured a bronze medal after Britain's Bradley Sinden withdrew from the game due to an injury. Brazil's Edival Pontes claimed the other bronze, adding to his nation's medal tally.

China's men and women have reached the table tennis team finals. The men's team gold medal match will take place on Friday between China and Sweden. The women’s team gold match will be held on Saturday between China and Japan.

In the women's 400 meter hurdles, Americans Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Anna Cockrell claimed gold and silver, respectively.

McLaughlin-Levrone, the defending 400 meter hurdles champion, broke her own world record, finishing with a time of 50.37 seconds, surpassing the 50.65 seconds she set at the U.S. Olympic trials in June.

At the end of day 13, the U.S. leads the Olympic medal rankings with 30 gold medals and 103 total medals, followed by China with 29 gold medals and 73 total medals, and Australia with 18 gold medals and 45 total medals.
