From October 3-5, Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) hosted a Chinese music and culture event to showcase ancient sung poetry.
The event, held in collaboration with several Chinese universities, including the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Shanghai Jian Qiao University, among others, featured exhibitions, performances, and lectures that highlighted the rich history of Chinese classical poetry and its musical interpretations, from ancient texts like the “Book of Songs” to Tang and Song Dynasty poetry.
The series opened with an exhibition and music publication launch, showcasing calligraphy and paintings inspired by classical poetry. The event included a performance of traditional Chinese music, featuring ancient instruments and poetry-inspired compositions.
The performances, including both traditional and new classical-style works, aimed to promote cultural exchange between China and the U.S.The MTSU Chinese Music and Culture Center, which organized the event, serves as a key institution for promoting Chinese music culture in the U.S., offering exhibitions, academic events, and performances to foster greater understanding and collaboration between the two countries.
