U.S. colleges tighten protest rules, raising free speech concerns

Following a year marked by pro-Palestinian student protests on campuses across the United States, many institutions have adopted new rules around protest and speech. Some have placed limits on the time or location protests are permitted, while others require pre-approval for any demonstration. Administrators say the new rules aim to boost security and safeguard uninterrupted education for their students, while critics say students’ right to free speech may be suppressed.
