Deforestation has long been a challenge for Brazil - where decades of over-farming and logging operations have taken a toll and seriously threatened the Amazon rainforest and the indigenous populations who live there.
But the government has made progress in slowing losses in recent years.
And at the latest UN climate conference, Brazil pledged not only to stop the destruction, but to also restore areas already damaged.
