Following the deadly 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar on March 28, a 37-member Chinese medical rescue team from China's Yunnan province departed Kunming Changshui International Airport for Myanmar to aid in search and recovery efforts.

They brought with them emergency rescue supplies including full-functioning life detectors, earthquake early warning systems, portable satellites, and drones.

At least 144 people were killed and at least 732 were injured, according to government officials. At least 10 people died in nearby Bangkok, where a high-rise under construction collapsed.

China's foreign ministry spokesperson said that China had expressed sincere condolences to Myanmar, it's friendly neighbor.

The Chinese embassy and consulate in Myanmar immediately activated its emergency mechanism and issued consular reminders to verify the safety of local Chinese institutions, enterprises and personnel. No deaths of Chinese citizens have been reported so far.
