Many leaders of the BRICS bloc met on Sunday, July 6, in Rio de Janeiro for a key two-day summit, the first since the group expanded to 11 full members.
Heads of state and representatives from ten additional partner nations are also taking part, with discussions focused on strengthening multilateralism amid rising geopolitical and economic tensions.
A final statement was released on the first day, outlining the bloc’s unified positions on global governance, peace, and development. Lucrecia Franco reports from Rio de Janiero.
