National Guard troops and federal agents are patrolling the streets of Washington, D.C. after U.S. President Donald Trump declared a public safety emergency and took over control of the local police force.

Trump says he will ask congress to a pass a crime bill that would extend the federal takeover past its current 30-day limit.
