The U.S. military has deployed warships carrying 4,500 sailors and Marines on missions abroad. While officials have not disclosed details, U.S. media reports suggest the forces are headed to the southern Caribbean to target Latin American drug cartels. 

Critics caution that the move could heighten regional tensions.
