China’s Ambassador to the U.S. is calling on both Beijing and Washington to maintain the spirit of the alliance they forged to defeat fascism during the Second World War that ended 80 years ago. U.S. and Chinese volunteers served alongside each other to repel Japanese forces and in the wider global theater of conflict, and as China commemorates its role in both that global war and its victory over Japan, officials say there are lessons for how to cooperate in today’s conflicts.
