U.S. Fed Chair gives annual speech in Jackson Hole, Wyoming

The head of the U.S. central bank suggested on Friday, Aug 22, that he might be ready to cut the interest rate that drives much of the economy. 

Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell has been under pressure to loosen conditions for business and consumers, not least from U.S. President Donald Trump. 

But with tariffs threatening to drive up the inflation that’s typically contained with a restrictive interest rate, Powell is treading a fine line, as CGTN’s Owen Fairclough reports.
