Rural schools face tough challenges in new school year

One in five U.S. students attend rural schools and while President Donald Trump’s administration recently released billions in previously frozen funds, thousands of rural districts remain worried.

As the new school year begins, officials across the country are sounding the alarm over the lapse of a federal program many call “an absolute lifeline.”
