In the U.S., back to school ‘jitters’ is usually caused by new teachers, new classes, and a little nervous excitement. But for many immigrant and mixed-status families, this year brings a very different kind of anxiety. 

Across the country, stepped-up immigration raids are replacing the usual first-day nerves with deep fear within communities.
