Port cities under pressure as retailers rush to beat tariffs

The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach broke a century-old record in July by handling over one million containers in a month, driven by retailers rushing imports to beat imminent tariff hikes. 

At a recent summit on global supply chains in California, top executives discussed what the future of trade would look like under recent tariffs. And in an exclusive interview with CGTN America, the Deputy Executive Director for the largest seaport in the U.S. explained what this could mean for the port’s future and the regional economy.
