Mexico proposes raising tariffs on Asian imports

Mexico is moving to raise tariffs on nearly 1,500 products from China and other Asian nations without trade agreements — a measure included in President Claudia Sheinbaum’s 2026 budget proposal. While the move is seen as aligning with U.S. pressure, China is voicing strong opposition to the plan. CGTN correspondent Alasdair Baverstock reports.
