The first half of 2025 marks the costliest period ever recorded for major disasters in the U.S. with historic fires in Los Angeles and storms across the country causing a combined $101 billion in damages, according to the nonprofit group Climate Central.But that data is no longer being tracked by the federal government’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), due to recent cuts by the Trump administration.
