The Canada–China Forum on Trade and Investment Cooperation took place in Toronto on Monday, Dec. 1, with Ren Hongbin, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), leading the Chinese delegation.

It marked the highest-level commercial engagement between the two countries since President Xi and Prime Minister Carney met in Gyeongju, South Korea.

At the forum, Ren said the CCPIT is ready to work hand in hand with Canadian partners to provide strong support for the sound and steady development of China–Canada economic relations.

He also encouraged the two sides to expand trade and investment and strengthen collaboration in both traditional and emerging sectors such as clean energy, automotive electronics, and technology innovation.

Over 150 business leaders, investors, and policymakers from both countries attended the event.

Representatives of the Canadian business community shared their views. They believe that amid major shifts in global supply chains, now is an important moment to deepen economic cooperation with China.

The forum also featured an information session about the 4th China International Supply Chain Expo, offering participants insight into how Canadian businesses can tap into China’s supply chain and investment opportunities.
