Recent remarks made by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Taiwan has caused an uproar both in China and internationally. China’s foreign ministry has said Takaichi’s erroneous remarks on China’s Taiwan constitute interference in China’s internal affairs, send a severely wrong signal to Taiwan secessionists, and undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
David Wright, Associate Professor of History at the University of Calgary offers his opinion on what she said.
Wright, also a fellow of the Canadian Global Affairs Institute offered his opinion of what Japanese right-wing politicians get wrong about Wold War 2.
Wright also had a message regarding how some people in Taiwan wrongly idealize Japan and how the lessons of brutal Japanese colonialism are being ignored.
