These and other comments by U.S. Olympic freestyle skier Hunter Hess, about representing the US during a time of political turmoil, have sparked controversy.

U.S. President Donald Trump labeled Hess a “real loser” after the skier said he had mixed emotions about competing for the country, while Senator Bernie Sanders pushed back, calling Hess a “proud American”.
