Nine people were killed and 27 wounded in a school shooting on Feb. 10 in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.
Seven victims were shot at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, while two others were found dead at a nearby residence believed to be connected to the attack. Police say the female suspected shooter, a trans woman, was found dead inside the school with an apparent self-inflicted injury.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney called for national unity, saying, “We will get through this. We will learn from this,” and ordered flags on federal buildings to be flown at half-mast for seven days.
Local journalist Trent Ernst was documenting the initial lockdown at the school when he learned of the rising death toll, describing the moment as something he “was not expecting.”
Schools in the area remain closed as the community mourns.
