Trash has piled up in Cuba’s capital, Havana, as garbage collection slows amid a severe fuel shortage. The crisis has deepened after the United States moved to choke off the island’s oil supplies, cutting Venezuelan exports. Russia is now preparing to send crude oil and fuel cargoes to Cuba to help ease the shortage, according to Izvestia newspaper, citing the Russian embassy in Cuba.
