There are few more prominent symbols of China’s global economic footprint than its electric vehicle exports.
BYD has achieved a milestone, beating out Tesla as the world’s number one electric vehicle maker, despite both former President Joe Biden and his successor Donald Trump, blocking Chinese electric vehicle imports amid trade tensions.
The broader growth in auto exports reflects China’s aim to become both a global leader for producing high-end goods that include cellphones and trains, but the most advanced chips and microprocessors needed to operate them.
