For twenty years U.S. authorities at both the federal and state levels investigated claims of sexual abuse of underage girls by the now-late financier Jeffrey Epstein. After years of pressure from victims, Congress, and the media, millions of pages of documents from those investigations have now been released, often heavily redacted and there are millions more pages yet to be published. They are dubbed the “Epstein files” but they are not one neat set of organized documents. They are from many different sources, containing many shocking facts and salacious details but also many falsehoods too, and their release has not been smooth or routine.
