The U.S. State Department, through the Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs, has issued an urgent security update directed at American citizens currently residing in or traveling throughout the Middle East.
The advisory covers a broad swath of the region, encompassing Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
In the strongest possible terms, the update urges all U.S. nationals in these countries to "DEPART NOW" using available commercial flights, citing serious and escalating safety risks stemming from ongoing regional hostilities.
Officials stress that the window for safe, commercial air travel may be limited, and that Americans who delay their departure could find themselves with significantly fewer options should the security situation deteriorate further.
The State Department is encouraging citizens to monitor official communications, register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), and contact the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate for additional assistance and guidance as they make arrangements to leave the affected areas.
