The intensity of  U.S. strikes in Iran, known as "Operation Epic Fury", is making it one of the most expensive U.S. military operations in decades.

According to media reports, the Pentagon told the U.S. Congress that the first week of the war alone cost American taxpayers $11.3 billion. 

Donald Trump promised American voters he would rein in spending, to keep the U.S. out of foreign wars and to focus on domestic issues.

But now the war and rising gas prices are becoming a political liability for Republicans heading into the November midterm elections.
