U.S .President Donald Trump has threatened to “take Cuba” amid a worsening crisis on the island, where sweeping U.S.-led sanctions have been blamed by Cuban officials for contributing to the collapse of large parts of the national power grid.

Trump's remarks come as Cuba faces prolonged blackouts, fuel shortages, and growing public frustration. Havana has accused Washington of tightening economic pressure at a time when the country’s infrastructure is already strained, while critics argue decades of sanctions have compounded systemic weaknesses in the island’s energy sector.

The government of Cuba has condemned the rhetoric as inflammatory and warned against any escalation, framing it as a violation of sovereignty during a humanitarian crisis.
