China: Reports that Trump could postpone China visit over Hormuz are false

00:21

China is refuting reports that U.S. President Donald Trump has delayed his China visit over pressure on Beijing to aid the U.S. in the Strait of Hormuz.

"Regarding the false media reports, we noted that the U.S. has publicly made clarifications calling them completely false, while stressing that the visit is not linked to the issue over the Strait of Hormuz" said China's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lin Jian on Tuesday, May 17.

"China and the United States are in communication with each other regarding issues including the date of President Donald Trump's China visit," Lin added.

On Monday, Trump said he requested that the summit in China be delayed by "a month or so" due to the U.S. military action in Iran.

Trump also said that that China “should be thanking” the U.S. for its efforts in Iran and said he was surprised it was not “eager” to help, the Washington Post reported.

In a social media post on Saturday Trump also wrote that he hopes “China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and others” would send ships to the region.
