Latest on massive Washington, D.C.-area sewage spill

As the world prepares to celebrate the United Nations Water Day, people in the U.S. capital can once again enjoy time on the Potomac River, after an advisory recommending against recreation there was mostly lifted. 

Health officials have ended restrictions that had been in place since a massive sewage spill in January that sent millions of gallons of raw waste into the river. But areas closest to the pipe’s rupture remain closed where elevated bacteria levels remain.
