Important discussions are underway at the United Nations in New York this week over the implementation of a landmark treaty, which covers some two-thirds of the world’s oceans.
The High Seas Treaty, as it’s known, was adopted back in 2023 and came into force earlier this year, but signatories now need to decide on more practical measures about treaty enforcement.
