UN calls trans-Atlantic slave trade "gravest crime against humanity"

The UN has adopted Ghana’s proposed resolution to designate the trans-Atlantic slave trade as the “gravest crime against humanity.”

All EU countries abstained due to the resolution's implication of a “hierarchy” of atrocities, its suggestion of a “retroactive application” of international law, and its references to reparations.

The United States, Israel, and Argentina voted against the resolution.
