Should AI be used in military conflict?

A growing divide is emerging in how artificial intelligence is used in national security, highlighted by a dispute between the U.S. government and leading tech firms. 

While Palantir Technologies continues to expand its AI tools for military and intelligence operations despite public protest, Anthropic has taken a different stance, refusing to allow its technology to be used for mass surveillance or autonomous weapons. That decision led the Pentagon to cut ties with the Anthropic, citing security concerns.

Former Vice President Al Gore praised transparency in AI governance, while former CIA technology chief Nand Mulchandani argued the military should have full autonomy over tools it purchases, even as questions remain about whether AI systems are ready to operate without human oversight.
