Britain's King Charles begins a state visit to the U.S. on Monday, April 27.

Any visit by a British monarch is highly symbolic given the so-called "special relationship" between longtime allies. And yet that relationship is under threat amid U.S. President Donald Trump's decoupling of America from its UK and European partners.
