Israeli police say a 36-year-old man has been arrested after a nun was attacked near Jerusalem’s Old City, in occupied East Jerusalem, on Friday, May 1.

Authorities described the incident as a suspected racially-motivated assault. Footage released by police shows the attacker pushing the nun to the ground and kicking her. He also fought with a man who intervened.

Church officials and community representatives have expressed concern, pointing to what they describe as a rise in harassment and violence targeting Christians in and around the holy city of Jerusalem.
