People from around the globe took to the streets on May 1 to celebrate International Workers’ Day.
Protests targeted working conditions, conflict in the Middle East, and the rising cost of living.
The holiday commemorates the Haymarket Massacre in Chicago that took place on May 4, 1886, when a bomb exploded at a rally calling for eight-hour workdays that led police to shoot into the crowd.
The deadly day led to the conviction of several activists and the execution of four.
