Hawaii’s Kīlauea volcano erupted on Tuesday, May 6 in what the United States Geological Survey labelled “Episode 46 of lava fountaining.”
Officials issued an orange alert, signalling heightened volcanic activity and an increased potential for eruption, before later being downgraded.
