Hegseth: Ceasefire 'is not over'

The U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said in a press conference on Tuesday, May 5, that the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran is still in effect despite recent Iranian strikes and the U.S. blockade.

Hegseth said it was up to President Trump to decide whether to escalate the conflict.

During his own press conference on Tuesday, May 5,Trump said that Iran should "do the smart thing," as talks between the two countries stall.

Meanwhile Joint Chief of Staff Chairman Dan Caine said earlier on Tuesday that Iran's recent actions did not meet the threshold for "major combat operations" by the U.S.
