Sacred site damaged by border construction

Construction tied to U.S. border infrastructure has damaged Mount Cuchumá, a sacred site for the Kumeyaay Indigenous people. Explosions and drilling have destroyed ancient rock formations, sparking outrage from local communities and environmental groups, who say the project threatens cultural heritage, protected land, and spiritual traditions on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.
