The U.S. fertility rate has fallen to a record low, extending a nearly 20-year decline.
But this isn't just an American trend. Across East Asia, Europe, and much of Latin America, women are having fewer children, later in life, or none.
And within a generation, the world's population is on track to start shrinking.
