Authorities in Southern California said Monday, May 25, that the overheating tank of hazardous chemicals is no longer under threat of exploding.
Officials said firefighters took part in an overnight operation to eliminate the possibility of threats from the tank.
On Thursday, May 21, the tank of highly flammable methyl methacrylate began overheating at the GKN Aerospace facility, 20 miles south of Los Angeles. California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency Saturday, issuing an evacuation order for tens of thousands of homes in the area.
