On May 27th local time, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with U.S. strategic and business leaders during a high-level meeting of the United Nations Security Council in New York.

Wang Yi stated that the call from all parties to preside over the high-level Security Council meeting in New York is to revisit the original intention of the Charter, restore the authority of the United Nations, and practice multilateralism.

Revitalizing the United Nations is primarily about reviving the Security Council; the key is coordinated cooperation among permanent members, with the direction of China-U.S. relations being crucial. Facts have proven that China-U.S. relations go beyond bilateral boundaries, affecting world peace and concerning the fate of humanity.

Achieving healthy, stable, and sustainable China-U.S. relations is a shared expectation of the international community and a mission that both countries should undertake.

Wang Yi stated that the Chinese and U.S. presidents held a historic meeting in Beijing, engaging in candid, in-depth, constructive, and strategic communication on major issues concerning China-U.S. relations and world peace and development, reaching a series of important consensus.

Both sides agreed to take the China-U.S. constructive relationship of strategic stability as the new positioning of bilateral relations, hoping to make efforts toward cooperation as the main approach, moderate competition, controllable differences, and promising peace, and jointly explore the correct way for major powers to coexist in the new era.

President Xi Jinping pointed out that realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and making America great again can go hand in hand, mutually support each other, and benefit the world. Both sides also reached overall balanced and positive economic and trade outcomes, mutually supporting the hosting of the APEC Leaders’ Informal Meeting and the G20 Leaders’ Summit. Maintaining good China-U.S. relations requires both sides to move toward each other, effectively manage differences, extend the list of cooperation, and compress the list of problems. Wang Yi emphasized that “Taiwan independence” and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are unacceptable. Only by adhering to the One-China principle and the spirit of the three China-U.S. joint communiqués can peace in the Taiwan Strait be ensured and conflict and confrontation avoided.

Wang Yi stated that China is willing to work with the U.S. to implement the important consensus of the two heads of state and take concrete actions to ensure the constructive relationship of stability relationship is realized as soon as possible. We hope everyone here will make active efforts in this regard and promote the formation of a broader social consensus.

U.S. officials attending the meeting stated that U.S.-China relations are the most important bilateral relationship in the world today. The successful meeting between the U.S. and Chinese leaders not only helps both countries develop independently, but also injects stability into a turbulent world and sends a positive signal to global markets. China’s economy has shown strong resilience and vitality, and American companies are optimistic about the Chinese market, looking forward to increasing investment cooperation with China.

The U.S. and China are major global powers and should strengthen coordination and cooperation across various fields, jointly provide international public goods, and work together to address global challenges.

Wang Yi also answered questions about China’s economy, artificial intelligence, and the situation in Iran.
