As football fans gather in Mexico for the FIFA World Cup, a different kind of tournament is drawing attention in Mexico City. 

The FutBot MX Cup brings together students and robotics enthusiasts to compete with autonomous soccer-playing robots they designed and built themselves. 

Participants say the competition promotes innovation, engineering skills, and teamwork while creating opportunities to compete internationally. 

Organized by Mexico’s science ministry, the event highlights how robotics developed through sport can have real-world applications in healthcare, education, and other industries, while encouraging more young people to pursue careers in science and technology.
