On July 6, the first batch of emergency aid supplies provided by the Chinese government to Venezuela for earthquake relief arrived in Caracas.
At around 8:50 am that day, a chartered aircraft operated by Air China landed at Simón Bolívar International Airport, located near the capital city of Venezuela, Caracas. The first batch of aid shipments, weighing over 80 tons in total, included 20 generators, 8 water purification units, 200 disinfection devices, 200 solar lighting sets, over 1,700 tents, and over 6,700 blankets. These supplies will be used to support emergency rescue efforts and the resettlement of affected individuals in the disaster area.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Silva and Chinese Ambassador to Venezuela Lan Hu attended the ceremony for the handover of the supplies.
The Venezuelan authorities stated that, following the powerful earthquake on June 24, Caracas and the northern state of La Guaira experienced significant casualties, injuries, and property damage. The Venezuelan government and people are grateful for the assistance provided by the Chinese government and people during this difficult time. The disaster relief materials provided by China will offer crucial support for current rescue efforts and post-disaster recovery.
The Venezuelan authorities will ensure that these materials are promptly delivered to the affected areas and the affected population. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Silva expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by Chinese nationals, overseas Chinese communities, and Chinese-funded enterprises in the disaster relief efforts.
Ambassador Lan Huo expressed that China and Venezuela have demonstrated a spirit of mutual support and assistance in the face of difficulties. The assistance provided by China vividly illustrates the spirit of a community of shared destiny through thick and thin. We are confident that, under the leadership of the Venezuelan government and with support from all sectors of society, the people affected by the disaster will be able to overcome the impact of the earthquake and rebuild their beautiful homeland.
