Cuba's envoy to the UN slammed the United States on Tuesday, July 7, calling its naval blockade on the island nation an "act of war."

The country suffered a recent power grid failure, plunging the island into darkness, as the U.S. continues to put pressure on its government, cutting off its fuel supply and adding more sanctions to its economy.

The U.S. representative at the UN criticized Cuba and the United Nations, calling the statements by the Cuban official "another propaganda splash."
